I remember the very first time I watched Mary Poppins, my heart sank in a whole new world full of magic were everything is possible, even the impossible. Featuring songs that even the nowadays kids know and full of hilarious moments. This year, Mary Poppins returns to take care of another generation of the Banks children turning their world upside down. A heart felting story underneath the London sky.
Part of the reason I watched this movie, is because our beloved Lin Manuel Miranda was in it. He doesn´t turn us down. With every choreography and song, Jack brought magic into the theatre, he really outdone himself. My regards also go to Meryl Streep that even though she had a brief appearance as Topsy, she really rocked it. Of course Mary Poppins and the Banks children had an awesome performance. Those kids really have a future in acting.
The story follows now grown up Michael Banks with his three children that recently lost their mother.who had to grow up pretty fast to help their father. In no time we learn that they have exactly one week to repay a loan from the bank or their would loose their house that´s full of memories from his wife. His only hope is to find a missing certificate that shows proof of valuable shares that his father left him years earlier. Just as all seems lost, Michael and his sister receive the surprise of a lifetime when Mary Poppins arrives to save the day and take the Banks family in a magical trip full of values.
The soundtrack of this movie is catchy and very elaborated. Some songs that feature are: “Nowhere to go but up” “Can you imagine that” and “A cover is not the book”. What I really loved about the songs is that they carry very valuable messages within them. For example, “Nowhere to go but up” refers that the good thing is that when you hit bottom, there´s nothing more to do but improve, rise. Although, as much as I loved the songs, some of them were unnecessary and awfully long. In some parts, I thought that the movie would never end!
I have to say that I really liked this movie. Even though it doesn´t bring you that same magic that I felt when I watched the first one, is pretty good. The aesthetic is gorgeous and the cast is really talented. A magical and beautifull story full of values.
